We’re pleased to announce that Dr. Chris Lakey, Senior Scientist at Downforce Technologies, will be speaking at the Natural Capital Symposium on January 22nd, 2025, at Harper Adams University in Edgmond, Shropshire. This symposium focuses on natural capital opportunities on rewetted lowland agricultural peat and serves as the culmination of the Environment Agency-funded LAPWDP-10 Patchy Peat Solutions Project.

About the Natural Capital Symposium
The symposium brings together researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals to explore strategies for carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and sustainable land management on lowland peatlands. Discussions will cover hydrology, carbon storage, biodiversity potential, financing mechanisms, and socioeconomic considerations for peat restoration.

Downforce Technologies’ Contribution
Dr. Chris Lakey will be contributing to two key sessions during the event:

  • 10:30 AM – Identification and Quantification of Shropshire Peat Patches: Implications for Carbon
    • A discussion on mapping and quantifying peat resources, alongside experts from Harper Adams University, Durham University, and Agrivation Ltd.
  • 12:15 PM – Natural Capital Opportunities on Rewetted Peat – Biodiversity
    • Exploring the biodiversity potential of restored peatlands, with contributions from conservation organizations and natural capital specialists.
